My Approach

Stuck, Not Broken

My approach is deeply rooted in the belief that all of us, at some point in our lives, will find ourselves stuck in challenging circumstances and contexts, struggling to cope with difficult feelings, body sensations, thoughts or limiting beliefs and acting in ways that are not in line with our deepest values, intuition and capabilities.

I see and look for the resilience and strengths inherent in every person and see my role as being a fellow traveler and guide.  I will help to clarify what is most important to you, any goals you may have, bring awareness to what may be getting in your way and support you to take small action steps, as well as suggest and experiment with new ways of coping or problem solving.

The counselling theories that shape my approach include an integration of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), mindfulness and self-compassion practices, and strengths-based, attachment frameworks. I always practice from a trauma-informed lens that also includes the work and practice of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and somatic/body based approaches.
