The Counselling Process

Loving ourselves through the process of owning our story is the bravest thing we will ever do.

It’s natural to have questions about how the counselling process works and to wonder what you should expect, especially if counselling is new to you.

After scheduling our first appointment, we will meet at my office at our arranged time. We will go over some basic intake and information forms that I will provide you prior to our appointment to complete, as well as go over confidentiality, informed consent and have a chance to talk about any questions you might have. We will then have plenty of time to discuss what is bringing you to counselling at this particular time, including getting a thorough understanding of your concerns, what changes you would like to make in your life, and discuss how counselling and working together might help.   Collaboratively, we will agree on a plan that we are working towards and how often and long the counselling process may take.  This early phase of counselling may take only one session or up to a couple of times meeting.

From there, sessions often include a check-in of how you have been doing with both your concerns and any changes you are noticing and actions you are newly practicing. We may take time to learn and practice new skills, reflect on what could be getting in your way of making changes and clarify what is important to you and how you would like to move forward.

My rate for counselling is $140, plus GST, for a 55 minute session.  I accept cash, e-transfer, cheque or credit card.
